How Is Chief Guest/Foreign Dignitaries Chosen On Republic Day?

Foreign dignitaries are typically selected as chief guests for India’s Republic Day celebrations based on several factors, including the country’s strategic and economic relationship with India, shared values and interests, and recent bilateral interactions. The Indian government invites a head of state or government from a friendly country to be the chief guest for the parade. The selection of the chief guest is done by the President of India and the Prime minister in consultation with their foreign affairs advisor and the Ministry of External Affairs.

The chief guest is usually from a country with which India wants to strengthen its ties and which will help to boost trade and commerce. The chief guest is also selected based on the country’s political stability, economic growth and its relations with India. The country of the chief guest also changes every year and not repeated within a short period of time. This is done to maintain cordial relations with as many countries as possible.
